EURO 2008 - Kicking for betterplace! JunpmSun, 15 Jun 2008 21:30:30 +0000c09 28, 2008

Kalzone (Username: panconqueso) is participating in the betterplace prediction game to each of the 31 matches of the EURO 2008.

Everyone can participate and do something useful. If you are spot on: Well done, you know your football. If you get it wrong: Donate one Euro to the project “KICKFORMORE - the streetfootball league” - or to one of the many other projects on the platform for social projects - betterplace - and be spot on anyway.

The Internet based Foundation betterplace.org, founded in July 2007, aims to connect people in need of support and others who want to help - one to one - worldwide. After an extended stay in Africa, Till Behnke returned to Germany to work for car manufacturer DaimlerChrysler. In 2006, Till felt the need to combine his degree in Business Informatics, his professional expertise as a project manager and the ambivalent encounter with the African continent to a more meaningful end than a career in a transnational corporation. In Berlin he met his ideal partner in Line Hadsbjerg. With a degree in anthropology, she had worked both for Amnesty International in India and for the European Commissioner for Development in Brussels. After long discussions about how the Internet can be used to better the lives of people in need worldwide, they surrounded themselves with a highly motivated, interdisciplinary team, consisting of Philip Baier, Moritz Eckert, Georg Friedrich, Axel Kuzmik and Bodo Sieber, to start betterplace.org - a global platform that was to be a bridge between needs and new, innumerable opportunities.

On betterplace.org there are social projects from around the world or in the closest neighbourhood. Projects can directly be supported by offering donations in money, kind, know-how, or time – as an individual or a company. On betterplace experience can be made directly, in text and image, the concrete difference each contribution is making.

betterplace guarantees that the donation will be forwarded to the project of your choice without any administrative fees - 100%! This possible because betterplace is not funded by donations. Furthermore, the charities represented on betterplace are also committed to this principle. Each donation received through the betterplace platform is forwarded to the individual project, and is not being used to cover the administration costs of the organisation.

Returning to the EURO 2008: Whoever gets most of the predictions right will be the betterplace Prediction King 2008 and is the winner - but so of course is everybody else involved. For every false prediction, 1 Euro will be donated to the project KICKFORMORE.

On the first matchday, we were able to save the position 11. Our results to present:

100% Calypso! - Gayumbos on Fire & The Burnin’ Braga en concierto en La Moe JunamThu, 12 Jun 2008 10:26:42 +0000c10 28, 2008

The Blue Dragon by Robert Lepage in Salamanca! JunpmSun, 08 Jun 2008 18:41:33 +0000c06 28, 2008

Robert Lepage, one of the most versatile theater directors has braught a new masterpiece to Spain when he and his company Ex Machina performed last night in The Blue Dragon at the IV Festival de las Artes de Castilla y León in Salamanca.

Québécois director Robert Lepage’s characters are often travellers drawn to the revealing encounter with the other, the exotic, the unknown. Yet in all the stories Lepage has told through opera, film, or theatre, only one of his characters has ever gone away for good— Pierre Lamontagne, the central figure in The Dragons’ Trilogy, who departs as the play closes to study art in China.

Twenty years later, Lamontagne resurfaces in Shanghai’s Moganshan 50, a former industrial complex converted into an arts centre, now the heart of the contemporary Chinese art scene. Here he meets Claire Forêt, a Montreal ad executive, drawn like so many others to take advantage of the Chinese economic miracle. Claire, who had known Pierre in another life at art school, casts a decidedly western eye on his current existence. Through the shock of their rediscovery and confrontation, their common past opens an unexpected door to the future for both. Enter Xiao Ling, a Chinese artist exhibiting at Pierre’s gallery. As she faces wrenching choices, the young woman awakens hopes long buried in Claire.

In the effervescent paradox that is modern China, the collision of these three characters brings about fundamental changes for each.

Co-written by Robert Lepage, winner of the 2007 Europe Theatre Prize, and his collaborator Marie Michaud (who also co-authored The Dragons’ Trilogy), and performed by Lepage, Michaud, and dancer Tai Wei Foo, The Blue Dragon bears all the hallmarks of Lepage’s original, brilliant, and highly visual style. As always, Lepage relies on the one inexhaustible resource the theatre possesses—the audience’s intelligence.

Playing with the audience’s imagination, Robert Lepage is a real visionary, he is creating theater for those who don´t like theater.
